KLH conjugation of peptide antigens
Keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) is extensively used as a carrier protein in the production of antibodies. Haptens are substances with a low molecular weight such as peptides, small proteins and drug molecules. They are generally not immunogenic and require the aid of a carrier protein to stimulate a response from the immune system in the form of antibody production. KLH is the most widely employed carrier protein for this purpose.
Alexotech offers conjugation of peptides to KLH using either amino coupling or via SS-linkage through addition of a N- or C-terminal cysteine. A cysteine linkage is recommended since it enables better control of the peptide orientation, i.e. its presentation to the immune system.
